Avoiding Mask Rash — December 9, 2020

Avoiding Mask Rash

Mask rubbing you the wrong way? Here are some tips.

  1. Don’t wear makeup under your mask—no one can see it anyway.
  2. Do exfoliate gently at least once a week.
  3. Use a toner or other product to remove excess oil.  My favorite is ZO complexion renewal pads.
  4. Wash your mask daily or use disposable ones.
  5. Moisturize—Epidermal repair cream by Skinceuticals goes well under your mask.
  6. Treat yourself to a facial or hydrafacial  at ArkLaTex Dermatology.
  7. Hope for a vaccine soon.  If you have concerns about the vaccine, talk to your physician.
Hand Washing and Eczema — March 11, 2020

Hand Washing and Eczema

Hand eczema — the hidden curse of coronavirus. All the hand washing and hand sanitizing may reduce the rate of infection, but it dries and irritates your skin.  Here are some tips to reduce the redness and peeling.

  1. Use hand cream, not lotion.
  2. Use it early and often.  Good brands are Cetaphil, CeraVe, Eucerin, and Curel.
  3. Avoid scents and perfumes as they may irritate.
  4. At night, apply a liberal coat of CeraVe healing ointment or even plain Vaseline.
  5. If your hands become severely irritated, contact your dermatologist for short-term use of a topical steroid.
